Learning Intention:I can use symmetry and a variety of materials to create a 2-D piece of art.
What I learned: I learned so much from this experience. Now I can tell people that I can install tiles! Yay! It was really cool to learn step by step instructions. I learned how to smash tiles properly without getting hurt, how to thin-set tiles and how to grout. Amazing!
Learning Intention: I can create a 2D linear perspective image using vanishing point strategy. I can use criteria for self assessment to improve my learning.
First art piece Second art piece
I am very proud of my art and the learning and growth that followed this process. I improved on all aspects of criteria, but the one part of criteria that I improved the most on was craftsmanship(mostly colouring). The first, to me, looks rushed and you can see all the colouring strokes. But in the second one all the strokes are even. I really enjoyed this process, but I guess my arm doesn't. It is still sore from all that colouring. Anyway this is a great way to be able to visually see your improvement from the first piece to the second piece.
My self assessment from the first art piece. Used to improve my second art piece.(To the left).
This was the best experience I have ever had at school! As you can clearly tell, I have carved out an elephant. This whole process was very slow because you first had to pick your animal and then pick a rock that is best for your animal.
After that you would get to work drawing a sketch on the rock and taking out the big pieces. That part was easy for me because my elephant toke up most of rock but I had a cut that could only be done by cutting in an L shaped form, and another that could only be cut in a U shape. That was pretty easy so I went on to the next stage.
Rounding. For this part I needed to get a fairly big file. While smoothing I was putting a lot of effort because I knew that later on if I was behind it would be pretty hard to catch up without rushing.
Finished that, the next step was smoothing it even more so I had to use the steel wool and because it was just a ball of steel in a sliver shape, we had to wear a rubber glove. If we didn't we would have slivers of steel in our fingers and palms. It was stressed that we did not rush this moment unless we didn't want a nice, smooth, soft stone carving.
Sand paper was the third-to-last step and that was also stressed that we would not rush this moment because it would be the soft, smooth, nice carving everybody was going for.
After two sessions my soap stone was perfectly smooth so my stone had to bake in the oven. 10 minutes later, the hot stone was put on a smaller table away from the others, so I could stroke bees wax with a paint brush all over it. It smelt horrible, by the way. Another session went by and after that my soapstone was good, because I spent that whole time drying my stone was ready to be placed in the glass showcase.
I love my elephant! It is on a shelf in my living room beside one of my couches so every time my dog is near it, he stretches his neck as far as he can so he can see what it is. I think it is because of the bees wax, that he wants to see it but he can’t reach it anyway.
Thank you Kathy (the carving teacher), and Mrs. Middleton! ;D

Learning Intention :I can take photos of objects from a point of view that make them resemble letters of the alphabet. I really enjoyed doing this unit and I found the super creative side of me for this unit. I learned how to see alphabet letters in our everyday life. I don't think I have ever looked at the world, I did, when we first started doing this unit and looking at examples. I am very happy that we had the privilege to learn this.
This photo was taken by me on a walk outside at school. I personally love this photo because it incorporates almost all the tips I have learned on how to take a good photo. It is using different perspective, focus, lighting angle and I have heard so many compliments saying that I got it from the internet (I swear didn't!) __________________________________________________________________ ( If you want to check out more amazing photos I have taken, check out my photos tab or check out my OTHER website that showcases my best photos. )
Learning Intention: I can create an image using specific visual elements including balance and space.
I never really heard of this kind of art but when I first saw I was stunned, stunned because i thought I would mess up but it turned out that I am very skilled art. I GOT AN "A"!(not that it really matters because it is the learning that is important).
