My Genius Hour

I think genius hour is a great idea because it allows students to realize their potential and follow their passion. I believe that Students find what they love to do when before you had no idea why you were even on this planet.

What is genius hour?

PictureOne of my slides
Today I worked on creating my two slides so I am able to know what I am talking about. Each person has two slides to customize so they know exactly what they will be talking about during the presentation time. I am doing what, in their eyes, makes them colour blind? And the summary(recap) of what we learned.

I learned that humans have three cones when dogs only have two cones. Each cone represent one primary colour. Dogs have blue and yellow as primary colours so all the colours in the world is made out of those two colours. That is why dogs have dull colours. Humans have three primary colours so we have more bright colours.

My struggles along the way were the internet connection. My google drive was not responding so every time I decided to deleted it said to reload. Other than that our experience was very successful.

Final steps to complete my project is to make sure that Jazzy finishes his two slides because he was very behind. I am glad that I got work with partners this time. A real treat. Thank you Mrs.Middleton.

Genius Hour Reflection-#3

Today was a very productive day in Genius Hour. A lot was accomplished and a lot has been importantly started. Now that Judy and I have added Jazzy to our group a lot is being accomplished every session. Since we have one session left until the presentation day, we have to start the presentation and fill in more of our sub topics. Since we have exactly six sub topics each person gets to talk about two. We are using this strategy because then we wouldn't have to fight about who gets to talk. Solutions!

With only one session left, the three of us had to work extra hard to make sure we finish on time. We started with having Judy and jazzy doing notes I had a turn to keep designing the presentation. I think this way was really productive because then everybody has something to do and everybody learns something new.

I am worried though that our presentation would be enough for the three of us but I am glad that the three of us got to ask questions to a dog expert. It is a great experience and I feel that I have already learnt so much and I feel proud of myself, Judy and jazzy. There really was nothing else wrong, or at least nothing wrong that I did not realize.

Next time we will finish what the presentation look like and add in the notes. We will all contribute to our own two slides so we will learn even more.

Today was a fast genius hour session. At the beginning when we first started Judy Moody, Holly Hills, Jazzy Pants and I had to finish a peer feedback sheet for our art because we missed that part on Friday. Fortunately we still have an enormous amount of time to finish what we had planned that day. Their was one minor set back though. Mrs. Middleton had set up an interview with one of her friend that is a dog expert. So the three of us had to come up with reasonable questions to ask her. As you can see above. That was pretty much the only thing we had time to do for genius hour. Now I am still counting that interview as what we did for that session because she would be like another resource. Just like if we were still in the genius hour session yet more interactive.

It was matter of being focused so we could produce enough questions to learn from the interview. I was very happy to learn that Mrs. Middleton has scheduled a time when the three of us could have a chat with her friend and actually learn something out of this opportunity. Thank you Mrs. Middleton and Joan.

The problem was that the three of us plus a fourth  person had to miss the first part of genius hour. Because, like I said before, the four of us had missed some peer feedback. Thankfully there was enough time after we were done the feedback to get to work on genius hour. The second, and last, problem we had today was that we could not follow through with our plan because we had to come up with questions. I am glad though because we were preparing for OUR second genius hour.

Some questions did arise during the process of thinking of more questions for the interview. The two questions are: Are their different types of color blindness? And are dogs born Color blind?

Next time we will follow through with our previous plan. To keep playing with our new found tool and too put the new information that we just received into notes so we can better understand them.

Already preparing for next genius hour! ;D

We are working on researching!
Finally, our second Genius Hour! I have been waiting long for this. Too long. This genius hour we are allowed to work with partners. My partner is Judy Moody. She and I both have the same wondering. The person across from us in the image above has the same question so we are going back and forth sharing our knowledge and sub questions. It is really cool this time to be able to collaborate with others. Such a great learning experience. I am very happy because Mrs. Middleton knows a person that is dog expert. I am hoping that the three of us do get to meet her, but we do understand that it is a maybe.

So much went well on this first session. I am so proud of myself, Judy and Jazzy to be able to be focused for an hour. While Judy was playing around with the new presentation tool I was researching about our first sub topic. What other animals are color blind? Turns out that dogs, cats, rats, mice, rabbits, bulls and...wait for it...humans are color blind. Did you know that 1 out of 12 males are color blind. The color green and red are the hardest to see. You can see how much I learned about this first sub topic.

This first session, like I said before, was very successful. But there was one problem that I know is easy to change. I was looking at one particular website most of the time. I think I should be going back and forth through website to gain more knowledge. Near the end I was looking for more different websites, so that was great.

What do all the color blind animals have in common? That was the one question that came up during this session. This question was excellent. It would be really nice to learn more about what these animals have in common.

Like I said before, I am very excited to be starting Genius Hour. Next time we will keep playing with our new found presentation tool and will keep researching about what other animals are color blind? We will also start researching on our second sub topic. Not determined yet.

I can't wait to begin the second session.
