At first I didn't find the book "Forbidden City" very interesting, but as soon as I actually started reading it I really started enjoying the book. It is like the old saying "Never judge a book by its cover". It works for people as well as books. Like last year we not only read the book but we make connections, questions and word banks (search up word we don't know). I think making connections really deepens your understanding of what is happening in the story. Questions help us elevate our thinking. Not just asking: why did Eddie tell Alex the secret? But asking: If Eddie didn't tell Alex the secret, how different would the friendship between Alex and Lao Zu be? See how different a deeper questions could be than surface questions? Last but not least when we read we might come across words that we have no idea of what it mean, and that it okay. But when you search up the word and know the meaning a little bit better you will see how different the story would feel to you. and appeal to you.
We do all of these thing to help us understand, the books we read, better.
